Sofraxdex contains 2 types of antibiotics and one steroid component, to target bacterial infections and to reduce inflammation

Brand Names Sofradex
Used For Sofradex is used to treat infection of the ear canal (otitis externa)
Doseage In the ear: Two drops in the ear three or four times a day
Side Effects Some side effects include: irritation, burning, stinging, itching or swelling.
Warnings Caution with using this medicine if you're eardrum is perforated. Speak to your doctor first.
Pregnancy Talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant. Safety for use in pregnancy and lactation has not been established.

Sofradex is a combination topical therapy used to treat infections of the ear canal. It consists of a steroid (dexamethasone), to reduce inflammation, an antibiotic (Framycetin) and Gramicidin a mixture of a further 3 antibiotic compounds to tackle localised bacterial infection's.

How does Sofradex work?

Gramicidin disturbs the delicate electrolyte balance of the bacterial cell, Framycetin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and dexamethasone reduces inflammation - in combination, this treats both the cause of the infection and the painful symptoms that result

How do I take Sofradex?

Child - 2-3 drops in the affected ear, 3-4X daily: do NOT use if perforated ear drum 

Adult - 2-3 drops in the affected ear, 3-4X daily: do NOT use if perforated ear drum

Corneal and scleral thinning, migraine

Avoid concomitant use with anticoagulant medications - increased risk of haemorrhagic events
