Sexually transmitted diseases are common and some patients may have more than one STD at any one time. As in most cases, prevention is better than cure and the use of barrier methods of contraception (condoms), to prevent STD's, particularly if having casual sex with multiple partners, is advised.

Men with an STD may present with testicular pain, discharge from the penis, small wart-like growths or blisters on the genitalia, tenderness over the perineum (the area between the testicles and anus), pain on having sex and irritation or pain when passing urine - if you have a recent history of unprotected sex with any of these symptoms, it is important that you get checked out. 

In Women there may be pain on passing urine or on having sex, abnormal vaginal discharge, pelvic pain with fever-like symptoms, blisters or wart-like growths on the labia and bleeding between periods - if you have a recent history of unprotected sex with any of these symptoms, it is important that you get checked out.
