Full Blood Count (FBC)
Checks the levels of different types of cells in the blood.
- Measures red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets
- Can help investigate anaemia, infection and other blood-related conditions
Iron Studies (Iron & Ferritin Tests)
Checks iron levels and the amount of iron stored in the body.

Cholesterol Test
Measures cholesterol and other fats in the blood.

FAQs - Booking your appointment
- Do I need a GP appointment or referral for a private blood test?
No referral needed. Book a GP appointment and your GP arranges the right tests and takes your sample during the consultation. You can browse our A-Z list to check tests and prices first.
- Can I book a specific blood test if I already know which one I need?
Book a GP appointment and tell the GP what you're after. They'll arrange the test and take your sample during the consultation. You can browse our A-Z list to check tests and prices beforehand, but the test itself is ordered in your appointment.
- What does a “full blood test” include?
There is no single blood test that checks everything, so ask exactly which markers a provider means by “full”. For example, DocTap’s instant focused panel includes a full blood count, liver and kidney markers, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and CRP, with key results reviewed by a GP in the same visit. Thyroid function, ferritin, HbA1c, vitamins, hormones and other tests are separate unless the named panel includes them. The right combination depends on your symptoms, medical history and reason for testing.
- Do I need to fast before a blood test?
Most blood tests need no preparation. A few may need you to fast beforehand. If yours does, we'll tell you in advance, in your booking summary and confirmation email, along with any other instructions. The focused blood panel does not require fasting.
- How soon will my blood test results be ready?
At our five clinics with on-site labs (Canary Wharf, Hammersmith, Kings Cross & Euston, Liverpool Street & Bank, and London Bridge), key blood results can be ready in the same visit. Most other tests return within 24 to 48 hours, depending on what's ordered.
- Will a GP explain my results if they are abnormal?
With the focused blood panel with GP review, a doctor reviews your results with you in the same visit. For other blood tests, your medical report and notes are available in your patient portal, and if a follow-up is needed we'll let you know. A GP review is available as an option.
- What if my results need urgent attention?
For tests requiring urgent review, your clinician will prioritise processing and contact you directly if immediate action or treatment is needed.
- Can you take blood samples from children?
Our laboratory partner TDL operate a Patient Reception at 76 Wimpole Street, London W1G 9RT where they are able to take bloods for children under 16. Your doctor will give you a phlebotomy form during your appointment so you can bring this with you to the patient reception. Our staff are not able to take blood from children under 16 in our clinics.
- Are the laboratories accredited?
Yes. We use UKAS-accredited laboratories for testing ensuring that all results meet the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and reliability.
