DocTap or A&E?

When to see DocTap – and when to go straight to A&E

DocTap is ideal for urgent problems that can’t wait for a routine GP appointment but aren’t life-threatening – for serious or life-threatening symptoms you should go straight to A&E or call 999. nhs.uk +1

Go to A&E or call 999 now if:

  • Severe chest pain or tightness – especially if it’s sudden, heavy, or spreading to your arm, jaw or back.
  • Stroke symptoms – such as face drooping, arm weakness or numbness, or slurred/blurred speech.
  • Serious breathing problems – you are very short of breath, struggling to breathe or breathing is suddenly much worse.
  • Heavy bleeding or serious injury – bleeding that won’t stop, major wounds, serious burns, or trauma (for example, a road traffic accident).
  • Severe allergic reaction – swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, or collapse after an allergen.
  • Seizures or severe confusion – a fit that isn’t stopping, or new confusion, drowsiness or collapse.

DocTap is usually suitable if:

  • Urgent but not life-threatening problems – you feel unwell and need to see a GP soon, but don’t think it’s an emergency.
  • Common infections and new symptoms – ear, throat, chest, urine or skin infections, fevers, rashes and other new concerns.
  • Out of hours GP needs – you’d normally think about a walk in clinic or out of hours GP, but prefer a booked private appointment.
  • Prescriptions, notes and letters – you need urgent private prescriptions, fit notes or medical letters for work, school or travel.
  • Tests and investigations – you need blood tests or other checks that can safely be done in a clinic, including many on-site lab tests.
  • New worries about your health – new lumps, moles, ongoing symptoms or changes you don’t want to wait weeks to have assessed.

“What a very hospitable practice this is in Canary Wharf. A very lovely reception area provided with aircons, and a very nice receptionist who was very welcoming. I was treated by Dr Mohammed Qurashi yesterday. He provided exceptional care, he went above and beyond to ensure all wellbeing checks were thorough and really did put the patient (myself) first. I really do endorse people to visit this practice, it was a very stress free and easy environment to be in.”

“Dr. Mohammed Qurashi was an exceptional doctor. He was extremely thorough, detailed in covering all of my concerns and questions, and had a really kind bedside manner which made me feel calm in discussing my health concerns. He covered off everything I wanted to discuss and really approached my symptoms with great care, reviewed my test results, and I left the appointment with a clear plan of action. I would highly recommend Dr. Quarshi, and even asked how I could request him for future appointments as a primary physician as he was so attentive to checking my medical history and never made me feel rushed. Thank you so much for the exceptional care and appointment. Kind, clear treatment of this manner is so rare these days! Highly recommend booking with Dr. Quarshi if you can.”
