Before you book online
A quick guide to when an in-person appointment may be more suitable
- Physical examination
- Injuries and other concerns requiring an examination, observations, tests or imaging need an in-person appointment.
- Medical certificates
- Fit-to-Fly, Fit-to-Work and sports certificates usually require a physical examination.
- Controlled medicines
- Controlled or potentially addictive medicines, including diazepam, cannot be prescribed during a video appointment.
- Mental health
- If mental health is your main concern, we recommend booking a dedicated mental health appointment with a GP experienced in this area.
When an appointment in clinic may be more suitable or required
Online appointments are suitable for many concerns, but some need an examination in clinic or a dedicated appointment.
DocTap is not an emergency service. For severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, seek urgent medical help.

How to book an online GP appointment

- 2Join from your browserAt your appointment time, log into your DocTap patient portal and select Join. Your consultation opens securely in your browser — there's no app or software to download.
- 3Continue your careYour consultation notes and documents are saved in your DocTap patient portal. If you want your NHS GP to see them, download the relevant records from the Records tab and send them directly to your NHS GP practice. If you need further care, you can book another video appointment or continue in person at a DocTap London clinic.

Dr Anna Hourmouzios
General Practitioner- MBBS MRCPCH DRSRH MRCGP
Dr. Anna Hourmouzios has a true passion for helping people, and it shows in her work. She's been a familiar face in the London NHS since graduating from UCL medical school in 2008. Before becoming a GP, she specialized in paediatrics, and she still has a special place in her heart for child health. She also holds a diploma in sexual and reproductive healthcare and loves to share her knowledge by teaching other medical professionals.
Dr Alex Chitra
General Practitioner- MBBS MRCS MRCGP
Dr. Alex Chitra brings over 15 years of general practice experience to our team. After training at the Royal Free Hospital in London, he worked in a variety of hospital settings, gaining valuable experience in women's and children's health before becoming a GP. Dr. Chitra enjoys the full scope of family medicine, with a special focus on ENT, Dermatology, and Musculoskeletal medicine. He is committed to providing comprehensive care to his patients.
Dr Laura Mindel
General Practitioner- MRCGP
Dr Mindel graduated from University College London in 2008. After qualification she worked at Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex Hospital, before completing her GP training in South London. She has a particular passion for family medicine, women’s health and child health. Dr Mindel has a post graduate diploma in women’s health and an interest in medical education, teaching at a London Medical School. Outside of work she enjoys being with her young family, playing tennis and travelling.
Dr Joseph Blunt
General Practitioner- MRCGP
Dr Joey Blunt has degrees from the University of Cambridge, and the University of Manchester, where he ranked 1st of 400 candidates in the medical sciences examinations. He subsequently trained in North West London and now works in the NHS and privately. He has an interest in all areas of General Practice, and takes a particular interest in the management of diabetes and cholesterol, as well as Men's health.
Dr Daphne Dhas
General Practitioner- MRCGP
Dr Das qualified as a GP in 2019, having previously worked in accident and emergency , general surgery and orthopaedics. She has worked in both NHS and private settings. Dr Das has a special interest in Dermatology and has a post graduate diploma in Clinical dermatology. She is also trained at looking at skin lesions using a dermatoscope which is a tool used in assessing different types of lesions.

- What health problems can an online GP safely assess?
Many common concerns can be assessed online, including minor illnesses, chronic conditions, sexual health, repeat prescriptions, referrals, letters and general advice. For mental health concerns, please book a dedicated mental health appointment instead; it gives you more time with a GP who has the right experience.
- When should I book an in-clinic appointment instead of a video consultation?
If your GP thinks you need an examination, observations or tests, they will explain the safest next step. This may include arranging an in-person appointment. Seek urgent care for severe or rapidly worsening symptoms.
- Can an online GP prescribe antibiotics or other medication?
A GP can prescribe medication after assessing you, if it is clinically appropriate. Some medicines cannot be prescribed online, and an appointment does not guarantee a prescription. Any pharmacy charge for the medicine is separate.
- Which medicines cannot be prescribed during a video appointment?
You can contact our admin team before booking to check whether we can meet your needs. DocTap GPs cannot prescribe controlled or potentially addictive medicines (such as diazepam) during a video appointment. Please book a clinic appointment instead. Prescribing remains at the clinician’s discretion.
- Can an online GP issue a sick note or medical letter?
Your doctor may be able to provide a sick note or medical letter over a video consultation but we recommend booking a clinic appointment for sick notes or medical letter requests, as your doctor may need to perform an in person examination to assess your condition.
- What happens if an online GP decides I need tests or an examination?
Your GP can arrange tests and scans during your video consultation, and advise you on next steps. If needed you may be asked to attend an in-person appointment, but follow‑up care can often remain online.
- How much does an online GP consultation cost?
Online appointments are from £55, with subsequent follow-up appointments offered at a reduced rate, from £30. The cost also includes e-prescriptions and medical letters.
- What if I cannot connect to my video consultation?
If you encounter any technical issues when joining a video call, please contact our support team on 020 7183 3254, and a member of our team will be happy to assist you.
