Your health screen: what every number means
A DocTap health screen delivers a wealth of information about your body. Our GPs don't just give you a report—they explain the story your body is telling, and what we can do about it. Here’s a personal look at why each key parameter matters.
Your Full Blood Count (FBC) provides an immediate snapshot of your body's essential health. It’s the first clue your GP uses to understand why you might be feeling unwell – whether it's a silent infection, anaemia, or simply general fatigue. With these results in hand during your screen, your doctor can swiftly guide you on immediate next steps, from prescribing antibiotics for infection or recommending iron supplements for deficiency, to reassuring you that watchful waiting is the best approach for today.
Ferritin measures your iron reserves, a critical indicator often checked alongside your FBC. If you're experiencing persistent fatigue, hair loss, or weakness, low ferritin could be the silent culprit, even before anaemia shows up on other tests. With this crucial number, your GP can immediately confirm an iron deficiency during your screen, and discuss a personalized plan for iron supplements to help you quickly regain energy and vitality.
Your Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) test is a key indicator of how well your thyroid gland – the body's 'master regulator' – is functioning. If you're experiencing symptoms like unexplained weight changes, fatigue, or mood shifts, an imbalanced thyroid could be the hidden reason. Seeing your TSH results during your health check allows your GP to immediately discuss any concerns, potentially recommend further specific tests, or swiftly start medication to restore balance, helping you feel like yourself again without delay.
Your kidneys are vital filters, quietly working to remove waste and excess fluid from your body. Our Kidney Function tests assess how effectively they're performing this crucial role. This insight is essential for understanding your overall health, especially if you have a family history of kidney issues, take regular medication, or manage conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. With these results, your GP can immediately assess your kidney health during your screen and advise on any necessary lifestyle adjustments, medication management, or further steps to protect these vital organs for the long term.
Your liver is a powerhouse organ, responsible for everything from detoxification to energy metabolism. Our comprehensive Liver Function tests check how well it’s performing these vital tasks. This is crucial for detecting early signs of stress or damage, especially if you take regular medications, consume alcohol, or have felt generally unwell. Receiving these results during your screen allows your GP to immediately assess your liver health, providing clear guidance on lifestyle adjustments, medication review, or swift referral for further investigation, helping you safeguard this essential organ.
The HbA1c test gives a vital long-term perspective, showing your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. This is the gold standard for early detection of pre-diabetes and diabetes, even if you don't have obvious symptoms or a high current blood sugar reading. Seeing your HbA1c during your health assessment empowers your GP to discuss targeted lifestyle changes or immediate treatment options to help manage your blood sugar and protect your health long-term.
These essential tests provide a comprehensive picture of your heart health risk by analyzing different types of fats in your blood. We measure your Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, and the balance of 'good' (HDL) and 'bad' (LDL) cholesterol. Your GP will interpret these results alongside your lifestyle and medical history, offering immediate guidance on diet, exercise, or medication to proactively reduce your cardiovascular risk.
Your protein levels (Total Protein, Albumin, Globulin) are fundamental indicators of your nutritional status, as well as providing insights into your liver and kidney function. During your general health check-up, your GP will interpret these markers to ensure your body has the building blocks it needs and to identify any other health signals, helping to complete your overall health picture and guide any necessary next steps for your wellbeing.
Uric Acid is a waste product that, at high levels, can cause painful conditions like gout or contribute to kidney stone risk. During your full body check, your GP will check your Uric Acid level and discuss its implications for your joint health and kidney function, advising on diet or other preventative measures to keep your levels in check.
Testosterone, a key male hormone, plays a vital role in energy, mood, muscle mass, and libido. If you're experiencing symptoms like fatigue, low mood, or decreased drive, checking your testosterone levels can provide important answers. Your GP will discuss your result in the context of your symptoms and overall health during your screen, advising on lifestyle, or recommending further investigation or treatment if needed.
Your comfort and choice
Many comprehensive health screens include a physical examination. Our priority is your comfort and choice throughout this process. Here's what to expect, and remember, you always have the right to decline any part of the examination.

A health screen is a medical assessment carried out by a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) or General Practitioner (GP) to evaluate your overall health and wellbeing. Our health screens include a personal consultation to gain a better understanding of your health needs, along with a range of tests that can be customised based on your age, gender, and any existing medical conditions.
A healthcare assistant (HCA) is a healthcare professional who is trained to take bloods and gather information for clinical assessments by our doctors. DocTap's HCAs help us to bring you the best possible care whether you are having a health screen or blood test.
The Bronze package is our entry-level check with a Healthcare Assistant and includes full blood tests and a medical report. The Silver package adds a 15-minute GP consultation on the day of your visit to review your results, along with a cardiovascular exam. Our most popular option, the Gold package, includes a 30-minute GP consultation plus physical examinations such as skin checks and gender-specific checks like breast or prostate exams. The Platinum package is the most comprehensive, offering everything in Gold with a longer 45-minute GP consultation so you have more time to discuss any additional health concerns.
Our Gold Health Screen is the most popular choice among patients. It provides the optimal balance of diagnostic testing and doctor-led physical examinations, giving you a complete picture of your health combined with a detailed 30-minute GP review.
This depends on the package you select. Bronze screens are conducted entirely by Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) who collect samples and record vitals. Silver, Gold, and Platinum screens begin with an HCA for sample collection, but the main consultation is conducted by a GP who will examine you and interpret your results.
Our comprehensive health screens with same-day results are exclusive to our London clinics that feature on-site laboratories. You can book these specific appointments at our Hammersmith, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, and London Bridge locations.
Our pricing is transparent and tiered based on the level of care. Prices start from £159 for the Bronze package. Doctor-led screens start from £254 for Silver, while our comprehensive Gold package starts from £324.
Possibly, this depends on your insurance plan. We suggest contacting your insurer directly to clarify whether you covered for your health screen.
Yes, during the booking process and once you select the appointment type, you’re presented with a list of clinics and doctor availability. You can select a specific doctor.
Most of our health screens do not require any specific preparation or fasting. We simply recommend being well-hydrated to assist with the blood draw. If a specific test does require fasting, we will inform you of this requirement beforehand.
Yes, you are welcome to discuss additional concerns with your doctor during the appointment. Extras such as HbA1c for diabetes, Vitamin D checks, or Sexual Health screens can be added to your package and paid for on the day of your visit.
The appointment follows a streamlined workflow. First, a HCA will take your blood sample and check your vital signs, such as blood pressure, BMI, and pulse. If selected, they will also carry out your ECG test at this time. While you wait, our on-site laboratories process your bloods, which typically takes just minutes. Once the results are ready, you will proceed immediately to your GP consultation (for Silver packages and above) to review the findings and discuss a plan.
Please bring any details about your medical history, current conditions, allergies, and any medications you’re taking to your health screen appointment.
Our service is designed to offer resolutions, rather than just reports. If your results indicate an issue, our GPs can prescribe medication, issue specialist referrals, or outline a treatment plan immediately during your consultation. This approach ensures you leave reassured and with a clear path forward.
We differ from other providers by offering same-day answers. Because our clinics feature on-site laboratories, your blood test results are typically ready within minutes, allowing you to discuss them with the doctor during your actual appointment. You will also receive your full written doctor's report via our secure portal by 10 pm that same day.
By 10 pm on the day of your appointment, you’ll receive a clear, easy-to-understand Doctor’s Report. Your GP will explain your results, point out anything that needs attention, and summarise any physical examinations included in your package. This report serves as a full medical record of your screening and can be shared with other specialists if needed.
Same-day results, expert GP advice, and a clear path forward.
