How live AI translation works

You speak your chosen language. Your doctor speaks English. You hear translations during the conversation.

    Tell us your language
    After booking, look for “Translation support” on your confirmation or appointment page and choose your language. You can also tell us when you check in, or ask your doctor.

    Speak and hear the translation
    In clinic, you hear translations through the room’s speaker. On video, you hear them during the call. What you say is translated into English, and your doctor’s reply is translated into your language.

    Take your time and check understanding
    Speak in short sentences and allow the translation to finish. Tell your doctor if something seems wrong or unclear so you can check it together.

Helping you and your doctor understand each other

AI translation can make mistakes. Tell your doctor if a translation does not match what you meant, or if you do not understand their reply.

Have your medicine names, doses and relevant medical information ready. Your doctor may ask you to repeat or clarify something.

If AI translation is unsuitable or is not working well, your doctor will discuss the appropriate language support with you.

For video appointments, use a phone or computer with working sound and a microphone, and choose somewhere quiet where you can speak privately.

Will my doctor speak my language?

Your doctor will speak English. Live AI translation translates what you say into English and your doctor’s reply into your chosen language, so you can speak and hear the conversation in your language.

Is there an extra charge for translation?

No. Live AI translation is included at no extra charge. You pay for the consultation you book. Tests, medicines and other services may have separate charges.

Why should I choose 25 minutes in clinic?

Translation takes time. A 25-minute clinic consultation gives you and your doctor more time for the conversation, questions and checking that you understand each other. Please choose 25 minutes when booking an in-clinic consultation with translation.

What if my language or dialect is not listed?

Please contact patient support before booking so we can discuss your language needs and the appropriate support. We do not promise that AI translation will be suitable for every language, dialect or consultation.

Does this include translating medical documents?

The service described on this page supports the spoken conversation during your GP consultation. If you need help with medical documents or have other translation needs, contact patient support before booking to discuss what is possible.

Is my consultation recorded?

Your doctor will explain the recording and consent arrangements before you begin. Translation creates a written transcript that is kept with your medical record. Translated recordings made with your agreement are also kept with your medical record.
