Doctor Fit to Fly Certificates

If you require a Covid-19 fit to fly certificate, please see our Covid-19 PCR Test with Fit to Fly Certificate for just £129.

For non Covid-19 related fit to fly certificates please keep reading below. Our doctors can then assess your health and advise you on your fitness to fly.  They can explain the risks of flying in the context of any medical conditions that you may have.  Hopefully they will be able to provide you with a fit to fly certificate.  If your medical condition means that you don't meet the criteria set out by the airline or if the doctor feels that flying would put you at significant risk, then unfortunately they won’t be able to complete a fit to fly certificate.

Please note: as we are currently unable to provide any kind of testing for the COVID-19 virus, and due to the presence of asymptomatic carriers, our GPs will be unable to provide or sign any kind of form which states that a patient is clear of the virus. Instead, if they find it appropriate, they will be able to provide a certificate stating that the patient is clear of certain symptoms.

There is no additional charge for a fit to fly letter or certificate. If you are fit to travel, then the GP will provide it for you in the appointment.

When do I need a fit to fly certificate?

Aircraft cabin pressure is similar to that on a 5000 ft  mountain, this results in less oxygen in your blood which may cause problems if you have heart or lung diseases or severe anaemia. This pressure drop is also a potential problem if you have had recent chest, abdominal or eye surgery or if you have recently had a collapsed lung.

There are many other medical conditions that can increase the risk from flying. For example if you have had a recent heart attack, DVT, infection or stomach bleed.

Fit to Fly in Pregnancy

If you are pregnant then flying is inadvisable after 32 weeks and airlines will often not allow travel after 36 weeks. There is an increased risk of DVT (blood clots) and there is the risk of going into early labour on the flight.

Each airline have their own clear rules on flying when pregnant, with newborn or with a medical condition. It is best to review this information before coming to see the doctor.
