Many sporting events require all participants to obtain a medical certificate signed by a doctor. This is particularly common in France and several other European countries.
Some sporting events which may require a doctors medical certificate include the Paris Marathon, Medoc Marathon, Marathon de Sables, L'Etape du Tour, La Marmotte and Triathlons.

Please note:
1. Certificates for Italian Events:
Please note that if your sporting event is in Italy, for your certificate to be signed you will need to bring in results for the following tests undertaken within the last 12 months:
a. Resting ECG and a Stress ECG
b. Spirometry (a lung function test)
Your form cannot be signed without them as this is according to Italian law for medical sports certification.
2. Over 40's requiring a sports certificate:
If you are aged 40 and above at the time of your assessment, you are required to undergo an ECG and a cholesterol blood test. If you have had these tests as part of a health check in the last 2 years, this will be sufficient.
*We currently do not perform the following screening assessments: aviation sports or skydiving events / scuba diving events / driving medicals / olympic or other extreme competitive sports.
Your DocTap GP can assess your fitness to participate in an event and provide a doctor's medical certificate where possible.
Provided that a detailed medical examination isn’t requested by the event organisers then your DocTap GP will be able to carry out the assessment in a normal 15 minute appointment. There is no extra charge for providing you with a sports medical certificate. Your doctor may make recommendations for additional testing if this is appropriate and can better ensure your safety when participating.
It is recommended that persons participating in longer endurance activities such as half marathons, marathons, ultra-marathons, triathlons, long distance cycling etc, should have some cardiac baseline checks done to better establish their fitness. This is for your own safety. Our doctors will recommend an ECG and blood test measuring your cholesterol level, therefore if you have done these tests within the last 2 years, please bring them along to your appointment.
Please feel free to email us a copy of the certificate you have been given before booking your appointment, so that we can check if it is something we can help with. Also, do bring along any information which explains the nature of the event and what medical information the doctor needs to provide. It is also helpful if you can bring a summary of your health records from your regular GP, or if you have undergone a private or NHS health screen, it can help to have these records to hand.
Please avoid physical exertion just before your examination as this may falsely raise your blood pressure.
