Beclometasone nasal spray (beclometasone dipropionate) is used to prevent and treat rhinitis.

- Nasal symptoms related to rhinitis. Symptoms may include itching, sneezing, a runny, or congested nose
- Dosage
- 6 - 17 years: One spray (100mcg) twice a day, maxiumum 400mcg per day Adults: One spray (100mcg) twice a day, maxiumum 400mcg per day
- Side effects
- Less than 1/10 experience dryness and irritation of the nose and throat, mild nosebleeds, and unusual tastes and/or smells
- Warnings
- Avoid after nasal surgery (until healing has occurred) Avoid in pulmonary tuberculosis Avoid in the presence of untreated nasal infections
- Pregnancy
- Intranasal and inhaled steroids are not known to be harmful in pregnancy

How does Beclomethasone work?
Beclomethasone is a steroid and therefore has anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic (anti-itch) and vasoconstrictive effect's
How do I take Beclomethasone?
Child: 6 -17 years - 100mcg twice daily to be administered into each nostril, reduced to 50mcg twice daily once symptoms relieved - maximum 400mcg once daily
Adult: 100mcg twice daily to be administered into each nostril, reduced to 50mcg twice daily once symptoms relieved - maximum 400mcg once daily
Side effects of Beclomethasone
Glaucoma, nasal septal perforation (usually following nose surgery), aggression, hyperactivity, sleep disturbances, anxiety and bronchospasm (particularly in children), dryness, nosebleeds, hypersensitivity reactions, smell and taste disturbances and throat as well as hoarseness, nasal congestion and rarely, allergic reactions
Things to avoid
Avoid after nasal surgery and lung TB or nasal infections
