At clinics with on-site labs, many common test results are available in around 20 minutes and can help guide treatment during the same visit. Other tests take longer. Some prescribed medicines can be supplied at your appointment, saving a separate trip to a pharmacy. Your GP will explain the treatment they recommend. Supply depends on the medicine and stock at your clinic, and medication is charged separately.

Clerkenwell and Farringdon. St Peter's Italian Church on Clerkenwell Road has been the heart of London's historic Little Italy since 1863, and the Italian Consulate General is nearby on Farringdon Street. Consider our Liverpool Street & Bank clinic or Kings Cross & Euston clinic, and compare the journey before booking.
Mayfair and Belgravia. The Italian Embassy is in Mayfair, a short walk from our Bond Street clinic on Wigmore Street. The Istituto Italiano di Cultura is on Belgrave Square. Check the clinic address and your journey before booking.
East London. Tower Hamlets has more Italian-born residents than anywhere else in England, and many Italian-speaking families live further east in Newham. Consider our Canary Wharf clinic by South Quay Footbridge or our Stratford clinic near Westfield.
Flying in from Italy?
The Elizabeth line runs direct from Heathrow to Bond Street and Liverpool Street. Thameslink trains from Gatwick and Luton Airport Parkway stop at St Pancras International, a short walk from our Kings Cross & Euston clinic, and trains from Gatwick also stop at London Bridge. The Stansted Express arrives at Liverpool Street.
If you are registered with the Italian SSN
Your TEAM card (the European Health Insurance Card) gives you access to NHS state healthcare during a temporary stay in the UK. It does not cover private clinics such as DocTap, and the SSN does not normally reimburse private GP care received in the UK. Before you travel, check whether your travel insurance or any private or supplementary health cover (fondo sanitario integrativo) includes private doctor visits abroad. Keep your invoice, proof of payment and any prescriptions. Your insurer decides whether to pay, so reimbursement is not guaranteed.

- Can I book without a UK GP or NHS number?
Yes. Visitors and London residents can book directly without joining an NHS GP practice or changing their usual doctor. An NHS number is not requested in the booking form. Use an email address you can access and a telephone number with its country code; international numbers are supported. If you are visiting, use your hotel or other UK accommodation address, including its postcode. You will still need to provide personal details and relevant medical history. Contact patient support if you need help entering your details.
- Can I walk in, or do I need to book?
Please book an available appointment online before coming to the clinic. You can book a one-off visit without changing your usual doctor or taking out a membership. Same-day appointments are subject to availability; choose your clinic and time before travelling.
- Do you offer evening, weekend or out-of-hours GP appointments?
Yes. DocTap offers evening and weekend GP appointments, with times varying by clinic and day. Check live availability and book before travelling. You can use us for a one-off appointment without joining a GP practice. We do not offer overnight appointments. Weekend consultation prices are shown in the table above.
- Will I see a Italian-speaking doctor?
Your appointment is with an English-speaking GP. Free live AI translation is available if you prefer to speak Italian. You are welcome to consult in English. For translation, choose a 25-minute clinic appointment or a 15-minute video appointment. Let your GP know if anything is unclear so you can check it together.
- What is included in the appointment price?
Your fee covers the GP consultation, including prescriptions and standard medical letters issued during the appointment when clinically appropriate. AI translation is free. Medicines, tests and scans are charged separately, and insurer forms have an additional fee. Your GP will explain recommended services and their costs before you decide. Prescriptions or letters requested outside an appointment may incur a charge.
- Can I book for my child?
For children under 16, bring the child’s passport or birth certificate and the accompanying adult’s ID. If the adult is not the parent or legal guardian, bring a signed permission letter from the parent or guardian. Contact patient support before booking if you need help choosing the appointment or meeting these requirements.
- What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring ID and details of your symptoms, allergies and medical conditions, plus any relevant reports. For a medication request, bring the original packaging or a clear prescription showing the medicine, strength and dose. Tell the GP if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or are leaving the UK soon. If you are bringing a child, check the identification and consent requirements in the family booking answer.
- Can you replace medicine I have run out of while travelling?
A GP can assess an urgent repeat prescription request. Bring your medicine packaging, an existing prescription or a medication list, including the strength and dose. A prescription is not guaranteed: the GP must decide that it is appropriate and safe under UK prescribing rules. Some medicines may need further information, monitoring or specialist care.
- Can I use a prescription from my home country?
Some overseas prescriptions can be dispensed by a UK pharmacy, depending on the country of issue, the medicine and the prescription details. A pharmacist can check whether yours can be accepted; restrictions apply to some medicines. If you need a new prescription, a DocTap GP can assess your request. Prescribing is subject to clinical assessment and is not guaranteed.
- Can I use travel insurance or a European health card?
Pay for your appointment upfront, then submit your own claim to your travel or medical insurer. You can download an invoice from your DocTap account. Check cover, prior authorisation and required documents with your insurer before booking; reimbursement is not guaranteed. Insurer forms have an additional fee. DocTap provides private care, which is not covered by an EHIC. Eligible visitors may use a valid EHIC for medically necessary NHS care during a temporary stay.
- Can I have tests and receive results after leaving London?
Tell your GP your departure date before testing, so you can discuss result times, outstanding results and any further care. You can still access your notes through your DocTap account after leaving the UK. We cannot provide a consultation while you are outside the UK, so agree how any further medical care will be arranged before you leave. Keep your contact details up to date.
- Is DocTap an emergency service?
DocTap is a GP service, not an emergency department. For a life-threatening emergency, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need urgent medical help and are unsure what to do, call NHS 111. You can ask for an interpreter when you call.
