Local clinic suggestions and practical information for your visit.
Choose a clinic near your home, hotel or workplace. These local landmarks may help you find a convenient option.
Acton, Ealing and Kensington. The Japanese School in London is on Creffield Road in Acton, and Ealing has more Japanese speakers than any other London borough (2021 Census). Hammersmith is our nearest clinic to both, and to Japan House London on Kensington High Street; compare the journey.
Finchley and Golders Green. Both are in Barnet, which has London's second-largest Japanese-speaking community. The Northern line runs to Euston, near our Kings Cross & Euston clinic; compare the journey before booking.
The Embassy of Japan and the City. The embassy is on Piccadilly, near Green Park station. Take the Jubilee line to Bond Street station, near our Bond Street clinic. For City offices, consider our Liverpool Street & Bank clinic.
Direct flights from Tokyo land at Heathrow. The Piccadilly line runs to Hammersmith, and the Elizabeth line to Bond Street and Liverpool Street.
Overseas medical expense refund (kaigai ryōyōhi). With Japanese public health insurance, you can claim back part of the cost of seeing a doctor here for a sudden illness or injury. The refund uses Japanese prices, less your usual co-payment, so it may be lower than you paid. The treating doctor must complete and sign your insurer's forms, and you add Japanese translations, receipts and proof of travel. Claim within 2 years. If you need a form completed, ask us before your appointment; insurer forms carry an extra fee.
Travel and company insurance. The UK has no healthcare agreement with Japan, so check whether your travel insurance or employer's plan covers private GP visits. Keep your invoice, proof of payment and any prescriptions. Your insurer decides, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.

For children under 16, bring the child’s passport or birth certificate and the accompanying adult’s ID. If the adult is not the parent or legal guardian, bring a signed permission letter from the parent or guardian. Contact patient support before booking if you need help choosing the appointment or meeting these requirements.
A GP can review your medication and decide whether a prescription is appropriate. Bring details of what you take, including the medicine name and dose.
AI translation can make mistakes. Take turns speaking and tell your GP if anything is unclear so you can check it together. The original and translated text is stored with your medical record. Clinical notes, prescriptions, medical letters and test results are provided in English and are not automatically translated. Ask your GP to explain anything you do not understand.
DocTap is a GP service, not an emergency department. For a life-threatening emergency, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need urgent medical help and are unsure what to do, call NHS 111. You can ask for an interpreter when you call.
