Deep dives from our GP appointments
Occasional reports on what people bring to DocTap GPs, what the records show and what it means. Each is reviewed and approved by a DocTap GP.
Work comes up more than anything else in GP appointments about anxiety and depression
DocTap analysed 1,995 GP appointments about anxiety, depression or low mood in adults aged 25 to 64. Work was recorded as prompting or contributing in 39%, about twice as often as relationships or family, and far more often than money, housing or bereavement. In most appointments where work was a factor, the person was still working when they saw the GP, and in about a third they were finding it hard to cope at work.

DocTap analysed 703 GP appointments about tiredness. Among the 403 where DocTap test results came back, no clear cause was recorded in 57%, and more tests or a referral were being arranged in another 23%. Low iron stood out in women, and poor sleep, stress and recent illness ran through the notes.
