A Fit to Work Certificate is a private medical letter from a GP confirming that you are medically safe to perform your work duties. It provides a clear, professional statement of your current health and whether you are fit to start work, return after illness, or continue in your role with adjustments.
Employers often request this type of certificate when they need reassurance that you can work safely after a period of illness or surgery. Some industries—such as modelling, acting, education, manual labour, and care roles—also ask for medical clearance before you begin.
Fitness for Work Certificate
You’ll need a Fit to Work Certificate when an employer asks for medical confirmation that you’re well enough to carry out your job safely. These are the most common situations:

A GP letter confirming you are medically fit to work. For modelling, acting, and other roles.

A certified GP letter confirming you’re ready to return to work after illness, injury, or surgery, often following a doctor’s physical examination. Online appointments are available where appropriate.

If you're fit to work but need adjustments, such as reduced hours, a phased return, or support for conditions or disability.
Clearance You Can Rely On
