Before you visit
- Contact details
- An accessible email address and a telephone number with country code.
- Medicines and records
- Bring medicine names, doses, packaging or prescription details, relevant records and allergy information.
- Your address and ID
- Use your hotel or other UK accommodation address, including its postcode, and bring ID.
- Children under 16
- Bring the child’s passport or birth certificate and the accompanying adult’s ID. See the family booking answer below.
What you need to book and bring
When you book, enter the patient’s name, date of birth, contact number and address. We recommend using the UK address where you are staying, such as your hotel, including its postcode. An NHS number is not requested in the booking form.
Use an email address you can access during your trip and include your telephone country code. International telephone numbers are supported. If you have difficulty entering your address, contact patient support before completing your booking.
Bring ID, medication details, information about allergies and relevant medical records. Tell the GP when you are leaving London if this could affect tests or follow-up.

Payment and travel insurance
Pay for your appointment upfront, then submit your own claim to your travel or medical insurer. You can access your invoice through your patient account.
If your insurer needs a medical form completed, we can help. Insurer forms cost an additional £50, separate from your consultation fee.
Check your policy and any authorisation requirements with your insurer. Reimbursement depends on your cover and is not guaranteed by DocTap.

Medicines and travel documents

Tests and results when you are travelling
Tell the GP about your travel plans if you may need tests. The right test, clinic and timing depend on your symptoms and the care you need.
- Check the clinic
- Some clinics have an on-site laboratory. Available tests and services vary, so check the details for the test you need.
- Discuss your departure date
- Ask when results are expected and whether a further appointment might be needed. Some results take longer than others.
- Access your records
- You can still view your notes in your DocTap account after leaving the UK. DocTap cannot provide a consultation while you are outside the UK, so discuss outstanding results and further care before you leave.
Language support during your consultation
AI-assisted interpretation is available to help you and the GP communicate in the languages listed below. It does not mean your GP speaks your language fluently. If you need interpretation, book a 25-minute clinic appointment. Video appointments with interpretation are 15 minutes, and you must be in the UK for the consultation. Contact patient support if you need help choosing an appointment.

Questions from visitors
- Could I have a video appointment from my hotel?
Video GP appointments are available while you are in the UK. Some concerns require examination in a clinic, and fit-to-fly assessments require a clinic appointment. If you need interpretation, choose 15 minutes for video or 25 minutes in clinic. Contact patient support if you are unsure which service to book.
- Do I need an NHS number or an NHS GP?
An NHS number is not requested in our booking form. You can book a private appointment without transferring your care from your doctor at home.
- What can I give my travel insurer?
You can download an invoice from your DocTap account. We can complete insurer forms for an additional £50, separate from your consultation fee. You pay upfront and submit your own claim; your insurer decides whether it is covered.
- Can I book if I live outside the UK?
You can book a clinic appointment while visiting London. We recommend using your hotel or other UK accommodation address, including its postcode. International telephone numbers are supported. Contact patient support if you have trouble entering your details.
- Can I book for my child?
For children under 16, bring the child’s passport or birth certificate and the accompanying adult’s ID. If the adult is not the parent or legal guardian, bring a signed permission letter from the parent or guardian. Contact patient support before booking if you need help choosing the appointment or meeting these requirements.
- What happens if I leave London before my results are ready?
Tell the GP your departure date and discuss outstanding results and any further care before you leave. You can still access your notes through your DocTap account after leaving the UK. We cannot provide a consultation while you are outside the UK.
