HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system, potentially leading to serious health complications if untreated. Early symptoms may resemble the flu, but many people experience no symptoms, making regular testing essential.
Chlamydia is a common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) that often shows no symptoms but can lead to serious health issues like infertility if untreated. It is the most frequently diagnosed STI in the UK, with over 200,000 new cases reported each year.
Gonorrhoea is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the UK, affecting the genitals, rectum, or throat. It is caused by bacteria and can lead to symptoms like discharge and pain, though some cases show no symptoms.
Herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which can cause painful sores or blisters around the mouth or genitals. Many people with herpes experience mild or no symptoms, making it easy to spread unknowingly.
Syphilis is a bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) that progresses in stages, often starting with painless sores. If left untreated, it can cause serious health complications, but early detection and treatment are highly effective.
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that affects the liver and can be transmitted through blood, sexual contact, or from mother to child during birth. While some people experience mild or no symptoms, it can lead to serious liver damage if left untreated.
Hepatitis C is a viral infection that primarily affects the liver, often transmitted through blood-to-blood contact, such as sharing needles. Many people show no symptoms, but untreated Hepatitis C can lead to serious liver damage over time.
Trichomonas is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a parasite, often resulting in symptoms like vaginal or penile discharge and discomfort during urination or sex. Many people experience no symptoms, making regular testing important for early detection and treatment.
You should consider an STI test if you’ve had unprotected sex, are starting a new relationship, have symptoms of an STI, or have been notified that a partner has an STI. Regular testing is also recommended if you’re sexually active, even without symptoms, to ensure your health and peace of mind.
Different STIs have varying window periods after exposure before they can be reliably detected. This information is provided on the booking page for each test. Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea can be tested from 14 days after exposure. HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C are best tested at 45 days but are often detectable from 28 days. For earlier detection, we offer tests for HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C that can identify the virus from as early as 10 days.
You can select your clinician when booking. For GP appointments, there is usually a wide choice of male and female GPs. For test-only bookings, clinician options may be more limited.
We prioritize your privacy at every step. All consultations and tests are conducted in private rooms, and your results are accessible only through your secure online portal. As a general healthcare provider, we’re not specifically associated with STI testing, ensuring discretion during your visit. Your personal information is kept strictly confidential and will never be shared without your consent.
During your appointment, your clinician will collect the necessary samples for testing. HIV, Hepatitis, and Syphilis tests require a blood sample, which your clinician will take. Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are typically tested using a urine sample for men and a vaginal swab for women. Onsite toilets are available for providing urine samples, and the swab is self-administered in private, with guidance from your clinician if needed. If your appointment is with a GP, they can perform an examination if required and address any questions or concerns you may have.
Results for most tests are available within 4 hours at Kings Cross or Liverpool St and within 1-2 days at other clinics. Check the specific test for details. You’ll receive an email notification when your results are ready, which you can securely access through your DocTap online portal.
If you test positive for an STI, a doctor will call you to discuss your results. We offer treatment for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. For other STIs, your doctor will guide you on the next steps and refer you to the appropriate care.
